The Music Cubes are supposed to offer the possibility to create music or a beat with the help of several cube-like small computers. The target group is mainly children and adults who like to deal creatively with music. It is not designed to be an alternative to professional equipment or a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Rather, the focus is on trying out the different variations of instruments to find a coherent interplay. In addition, children could playfully develop their musical understanding in this way.
The project's goal was to simulate interactions with physical Cubes and show possibilities of their use. Therefore, an innovative application was developed in which children and adults can create melodies and songs with the help of interactive cubes. By placing different Cubes together, harmonic sounds are created. It does not matter which Cubes are chosen, as each combination provides a harmonic sound. The project has shown that the Cubes have an easy-to-understand interaction form and can be used as a tangible medium in the play, music, and educational context.
